The unit
One credit = one row written
A “row written” means a row that created something or updated something in your store. If a row doesn't reach Shopify, or Shopify rejects it, the credit goes straight back to your balance.
Credits are reserved just before each row is sent and released again the moment the outcome is known, so your balance is never ahead of what actually happened in your store.

What it costs in practice
Three realistic jobs
Most stores need fewer credits than they expect, because definitions are one row each and skipped rows are free.
Setting up custom data
12 metafield definitions, 2 metaobject definitions and 40 metaobject entries.
54 credits — one Starter Pack plus change, or one Value Pack.
Filling in a catalogue
A care guide and a set of highlights on 400 products: two metafield values each, so 800 rows.
800 credits — one Pro Pack plus a Value Pack, or one Agency Pack.
Moving a store's custom data
Roughly 1,200 rows across definitions, metaobjects and values, with re-runs during testing where most rows skip.
About 1,200 credits — one Agency Pack, with the re-runs costing nothing.

Pricing FAQ
Questions about billing
Is there a free trial or free credits?
The app is free to install and everything up to the moment of writing is free — templates, uploads, mapping and unlimited pre-import checks. There are no free credits, so your first import needs a pack. The Starter Pack is $1.99.
Is this a subscription?
No. Each pack is a one-time charge through Shopify. There's no recurring fee, no plan to downgrade and nothing to cancel — uninstall the app and no further charges exist to stop.
Do credits expire?
No. They stay on your store's balance indefinitely. If you reinstall on the same store, credits you'd already bought and not used are still there.
What if I run out of credits halfway through an import?
The import stops cleanly at the point your balance runs out and tells you so. Nothing is written that couldn't be paid for, because a credit is reserved before each row. Buy another pack and press Retry — it resumes from the first unprocessed row rather than starting over.
Does a failed import waste credits?
No. Rows that error, skip or conflict are refunded automatically, so a file that fails entirely costs nothing. The only rows charged are the ones that changed your store.
How do I know what an import will cost before running it?
Run the pre-import check. It reports “N of M rows will be written” and that number is the credit cost. It's free and you can run it as many times as you like while you fix the file. More on the check →
Can I get a refund on a pack?
Charges are processed by Shopify. Email support@importkit.app with your store domain and what happened, and we'll sort it out — see the billing section of the terms for the details.
Do I pay per store or per organisation?
Per store. Credits belong to the store that bought them, so agencies running imports for several clients buy credits on each store — or ask the client to. Charges appear on that store's Shopify invoice.
Check your file before you spend anything
Install free, upload your CSV, and run the pre-import check. Buy credits only once you're happy with what it says.
